Changes in the Housing Market

The Economist reports that the Virgin Media O2 Business Movers Index, which tacks commuting, shows 75% of employers requiring that employees are in the office three or more days a week, up from 64% in 2023. One in three companies requires staff in the office five days a week. Nationwide reports that detached properties recorded the weakest price growth. Rightmove reports that detached houses are taking twice as long to sell as they did in 2022. Saville report that properties priced at £1m or more have fallen 7% from their peak pride in September 2022.

In 2023 the number of new detached houses was less than half the number built at the peak in 2022.
