The Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government has just published the latest English Indices of Deprivation, last published in 2019. Nationally in urban areas 25% of people are experiencing income deprivation, 38.9% of children and 18.8% of older people. 62.1% of people are unable to afford to enter owner occupation and 41.3% are unable to enter the private rental market. 14.2% are living in housing in poor condition.
Swale is the second most deprived district in Kent and ranks 62nd nationally out of 326 districts. The national rank has worsened from 77th in 2015, remaining firmly within the most deprived quintile in England.
